Thanks for Reading!

That is all for this blog, hope you learned an enjoyed it. Next time you have the chance, try to raise awareness about extinction so other people wouldn't be careless about this problem. Thanks for reading my blog! Have a nice day!

Fossils

So as I mentioned, an extinct species doesn't exist anymore. In that case, how do we have information on species that have been extinct even before the humans "arrived"? How do we know how they looked like? According to their fossils  of course! What is a fossil you ask? A fossil is any preserved remains or trace of any once-living thing from the past. Like: bones, shells, exoskeletons, stone imprints of animals or objects preserved in amber,  petrified wood, oil, coal, and DNA remnants. According to the fossil, scientists can assume how the species looked, its body structure, its diet and a lot more information like where it lived. How do we find said fossils? That is actually not the easiest, because their hard to find and might have already disappeared. Some are microscopical or found deep beneath the ground or sea. For the bigger fossils like the skeletons, bone, and imprints on amber, there are expeditions that are searching for them. It could take years of c

Extinct Animals

As some of you might know, the idea of " extinction " wasn't created for an event which would occur in the future, there were already extinct animals and plants even before the invention of the word. Here are some examples of extinct species that are known to man: The Dinosaurs This is an example of Mass Extinction , meaning a lot of species go extinct in a short amount of time. There were thousands of dinosaurs species, every species is different from the other. The extinction of the dinosaurs is still a mystery, some say that a large asteroid hit the Earth and some say it was a massive volcanic eruption that wiped them all. The Dodo The Dodo bird was a bird that was hunted by humans for its feathers and its delicious meat, that is the main reason for its extinction. The Dodo bird was considered extremely dumb because it didn't try to escape or protect itself from the hunters, and until this day, people still use the phrase: "dumb like a Dodo".

What Does It Mean to Be Extinct?

Image
You probably heard the word " extinct " a lot. What does it mean? Well, to be extinct means a species of an animal or a plant does not exist anymore. Meaning that there are no more individuals of that species alive anywhere in the world. So, why are species of animals and plants are disappearing? There are several answers to that question: 1. The species don't protect themselves from hunters or other predators. 2. The species is hunted or eaten faster than it can reproduce. 3. The whole species gets erased at once or gets infected with deadly diseases. 4. Its habitat is destroyed or changed and it can't survive the new environment. In addition to those species, there are some species that are endangered.  Meaning those species are at the risk of being extinct- They are not many and they might be wiped out of the planet soon, in one swipe.
