What Does It Mean to Be Extinct?

You probably heard the word "extinct" a lot. What does it mean?
Well, to be extinct means a species of an animal or a plant does not exist anymore. Meaning that there are no more individuals of that species alive anywhere in the world.

So, why are species of animals and plants are disappearing?
There are several answers to that question:
1. The species don't protect themselves from hunters or other predators.
2. The species is hunted or eaten faster than it can reproduce.
3. The whole species gets erased at once or gets infected with deadly diseases.
4. Its habitat is destroyed or changed and it can't survive the new environment.

In addition to those species, there are some species that are endangered. Meaning those species are at the risk of being extinct- They are not many and they might be wiped out of the planet soon, in one swipe.
